Do all DMVs support online license renewal (or walk-in???)

Post by MichaelDavis »

Curious question - I heard that some DMV's let you renew your driver's license online. But, other DMV's need an in-person visit?

But what about me? How do I know which one I have to go through?

Sorry if this was already asked here, but I'm getting different answers so I'm not sure what to do :?

Hi there, Zack from Online DMV here, thought I'd try and answer your question here! :-)

Whether or not you're able to renew your license online depends mostly on the state. Not sure where you're from, but most states should at least support being able to renew your license if it's not expired, suspended, or nearing expiration for too long, or if there aren't too many changes to it (like changing the address).

But a lot of other states that I'm aware of - like California - require in-person renewals, but that's mostly for senior drivers and other very specific situations. Either way, the best answer you're going to get is by calling up your local state DMV and asking them whether you need to be there in person, or if you could just renew your license online.

Sorry if that's too general and vague, but I hope it at least could help you understand more!
