Just moved to California - Any new rules to know?

Post by JohnAnderson »

Hi all, I heard there are new DMV rules and policies in California. Can someone explain the recent changes? I've been booked before for being out of the loop, so I want to avoid getting in trouble again with the DMV

Hey there, congrats on the move! There are a ton of new rules and policies from the California DMV (not sure how many of these you've heard of already), but to summarize what's been going on as of now:

1) Drivers who are aged 70 and older don't have to take the written knowledge test when renewing their driver's licenses. But, an in-person visit is still required for a vision exam and an updated photo.

2) California also just introduced digital versions of driver's licenses that you can access through a DMV-approved digital wallet app. This is supposed to make it more convenient for drivers, allowing you to have your license on your smartphone. Right now, though, this program is limited to 1.5 million participants. Might want to keep an eye out to see if you could join in, if you want to!

So far, that's all that's changed in California up till now, as far as I'm aware. I hope that helps :-)

P.S. Anyone else here have more info, also feel free to add to this list
